If the River Walk is the heart beat of San Antonio, then Central-Northwest San Antonio is its warm sweet breath. ‘Casa Del Sol’ at The Ricchi Luxury Condominiums is located on the edge of The Rim Shopping and Entertainment Complex on the near NW side of San Antonio.  You can locate this area by looking at the San Antonio map where outer loop 1604 crosses I-10 on its way to El Paso.  Slightly higher elevations introduce the Texas Hill Country in all its glory and have enticed large employers like Valero, NuStar, Medtronic and UTSA to locate campuses here. Medical Drive and Stone Oak Drive have all the medical services needed for a thriving community and walk-in medical services like Full Spectrum Emergency Room and Texas Medical Clinic have multiple locations here.

Hiking and bike trails abound in the area.  Here’s the City of San Antonio link.   The longest trail can be found behind the Drury Hotel, located southwest corner of I-10 and 1604 intersection, near The Ricchi Luxury Condominiums.  This trail winds through UTSA and then goes all the way to The River Walk, downtown.  There are several parks close by:  Friedrich Wilderness Park, Crownridge Canyon Park, Dwight D Eisenhower Park.  Just check before you go:  Sometimes they close Canyon Park when we have visiting mountain lions!

San Antonio’s premier suburban community, The Dominion with golf course, is ‘next door’. In fact, this location is surrounded by golf courses: La Cantera Golf Club; the The Palmer Course at La Cantera; Cedar Creek Golf Course. Then you have the quaint and wonderful Hill Country town of Boerne close by. HEB has four super grocery stores at the four points of the compass from 1604 and I-10. To locate those stores, spread your shoulders a bit, take a deep breath, face north, and your right shoulder touches Blanco Road on the east and your left shoulder touches Bandera Road on the west. Rotate 90 degrees and face East and your right shoulder touches De Zavala Road to the south and your left shoulder touches Boerne Stage Road to the north: Wonderful roads with lots of stories and lots to explore. But we will start exploring closer to home.

Within walking distance of The Ricchi is your community called ‘The Rim’. On the map at this link, The Ricchi is #216, upper right.  The Rim  shopping and entertainment complex was built in an old cement quarry. When you look out from your patio at The Ricchi, you are viewing the edge of the ‘rim’ of the quarry. Below that cliff face is a running stream. You can BBQ in the grassy area between the stream and the parking lot.

Eateries and More: The Rim has it all…and you can walk to all, but better you drive: From drive-through hamburger and chicken joints to classic white table cloth or Formica Italian, Mexican, German, and American faire, to high toned steaks and chops: From seafood to brew houses. Want to wash your car? It’s here. Buy electronics? It’s here. Get exercise or buy vitamins? Spa out or get your hair done? Be athletic or prepare for the great outdoors? That’s all here. Want to dress up? Dress down? Dress for Less? Add sparkle? Dress your home? That’s all here. Then, throw in the anchor stores like Santikos Palladium Theaters (19 including IMAX), Bass Pro Shop, Best Buy, JC Penney, Lowe’s, Michael’s, Target, and TJ Maxx, and you have everything at your finger tips. Target is a Super Store and has a great grocery inside, too. Watch for farmers’ markets on the weekends.

Venture further: Ready to drive 2 miles in 5 minutes? Then you are ready to visit The Shops at La Cantera. Just follow your street, La Cantera Parkway, West, toward I-10, go under I-10 and stay on La Cantera Parkway to this premier shopping center of all of south Texas and maybe the southwest US. It’s on your left after you pass La Cantera Hill Country Resort.

Here’s your starting list: Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Dillard’s, Macy’s, Pottery Barn, Williams Sonoma, Microsoft, Apple Store, Chico’s, more eateries (like Brio and PF Chang’s) and lots of services. The Shops at La Cantera is open air. Strolling and eating ice cream are highly advised. There’s reasonable valet parking in front of PF Chang’s on the west side and Neiman Marcus.
